Baseball Round-Up – Week 3

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Baltimore City Community College baseball team went 2-3 in five games last week. The Panthers (3-9) dropped a single game to Northern Essex CC on Tuesday and spilt doubleheaders with Roxbury Community College and Chesapeake College on Thursday and Sunday, respectively.

BCCC fell to Northern Essex 10-7, but rebounded in the first game against Roxbury with a 12-6 win. In the offense-driven night cap, the Panthers lost 22-19. In game 1 at Chesapeake, BCCC had a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning, but Chesapeake posted a run in the bottom of the frame to tie the game and force extra innings. Rangel Betances (La Vega, Dominican Republic) drove in BCCC's fourth run in the top of the eighth, but Chesapeake added runs in the last two innings for the win.

In the second game, Marcus Smith (Baltimore, Md./Mergenthaler HS) picked up the win after pitching a seven-inning complete-game shutout. He allowed eight hits, walked three batters and struck out one. Offensively, the Panthers pounded out 11 hits and stole four bases. Devan Hill (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances HS) went 2-for-3 with two runs and a stolen base, while Justin Cummings (Gainesville, Fla.) was 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Then Panthers have seven games in the next seven days. Below is the schedule of the upcoming games.

Thursday, March 24: BCCC at CCBC-Essex, 3:30 p.m.
Saturday, March 26: Erie CC at BCCC, Noon
                              Hudson Valley CC, 3:30 p.m.
Sunday, March 27: BCCC at Frederick CC (DH), Noon
Tuesday, March 29: BCCC at Montgomery College-Germantown (DH), Noon
