Baseball Round-Up – Week 8

Michael Drabic pitched BCCC to its only win this week.

BALTIMORE, Md. – In the eighth week of the 2011 season, the Baltimore City Community College baseball team went 1-3, picking up a win over Prince George's CC and dropping a single game to CCBC-Dundalk and a doubleheader to CCBC-Essex.

BCCC (6-20) defeated PGCC 11-8 behind the pitching of Michael Drabic (Baltimore, Md./Mount Claire Christian HS) and the offense of Justin Cummings (Gainesville, Fla.) and Devan Hill (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances HS). Drabic tossed a nine-inning complete game and allowed eight runs (four earned), walked three batters and struck out one.

At the plate, Cummings went 2-for-3 with one RBI, walked once and scored two runs. He also stole a team-high six bases. Hill was 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and two stolen bases. Additionally, Jose Garcia (Trenton, N.J.) scored twice and stole three bases.

The Panthers fell 4-3 to Dundalk at home on Thursday. Devon Jones (Baltimore, Md./Forrest Park HS) went 3-for-4 with one run and three stolen bases, while Cummings and Rangel Betances (La Vega, Dominican Republic) each went 2-for-3.

On Friday, Essex dominated the doubleheader, outscoring the Panthers a combined 10-0. BCCC lost the first game 4-0 and dropped the nightcap 6-0. As a team in the two games, BCCC managed a total of just five hits, three of which were doubles.

Up next for the Panthers are doubleheaders at Harford Community College on Friday, May 6 at 1 p.m. and at Garrett Community College on Sunday, May 8 at 1 p.m.
