BALTIMORE, Md. – After a week of no games, the Baltimore City Community College baseball team went 0-3 in the seventh week of the 2011 season, falling 14-4 to Anne Arundel CC at home and dropping road games at Mercer County CC, 14-4, and at CCBC-Dundalk, 5-4.
The Panthers are now 5-17 on the season. In the loss to Anne Arundel, Yuris Martinez (La Vega, Dominican Republic) went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and one stolen base. Jose Garcia (Trenton, N.J) continued his success on the base paths with three stolen bases. He went 3-for-5 at the plate and scored one run.
Against Mercer County CC, Martinez, Garcia and Justin Cummings (Gainesville, Fla.) each tallied two hits and accounted for seven of the team's 10 stolen bases. Willy Garcia (La Vega, Dominican Republic) took the loss after pitching seven innings and allowing nine hits, 14 runs (10 earned), walking nine batters and striking out three.
At Dundalk, the game was tied 4-all until an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning to win it for Dundalk. Martinez led the Panther offense by going 3-for-5 with an RBI, a run and one stolen base. Pitcher Dax Kirkman (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill Academy) went the distance for the Panthers, tossing all 10 innings. He gave up nine hits, four runs (three earned), walked four and struck out three.
BCCC has four home games next week. The Panthers host Prince George's CC at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Dundalk at 1 p.m. on Thursday and a doubleheader with CCBC-Essex at 1 p.m. on Friday.
