BALTIMORE, Md. – The Baltimore City Community College wrapped up the 2011 season with doubleheader losses at Harford Community College and at Garrett Community College. The Panthers ended the season with a 6-24 record and narrowly missed qualifying for the Region XX Baseball Tournament.
BCCC lost to Harford 13-3 and 13-1. The Panthers tallied a total of six hits and four runs in the two games, but had success on the base paths, going 11-for-13 in stolen bases.
Yuris Martinez (La Vega, Dominican Republic) had a team-high two hits in the first game. Jose Garcia (Trenton, N.J.), Justin Cummings (Gainesville, Fla.) and Devon Jones (Baltimore, Md./Forrest Park HS) each had one hit in game 1. Garcia and Cummings stole three bases apiece, while Jones swiped two.
In the second game against Harford, Willy Garcia (La Vega, Dominican Republic) provided all of the Panthers' offense. He had the team's only hit (a double) and scored the only run of the game.
Garrett swept the doubleheader from BCCC 10-4, 6-1. Willy Garcia was a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, one run and a walk in the first game.
In the second game, Jose Garcia went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two stolen bases. Marcus Smith (Baltimore, Md./Mervo HS) and Andrew Campbell (Washington, D.C./Anacostia HS) each had two hits. Campbell added a triple and scored one run.
