ARNOLD, MD – The Panthers (10-11; 5-7 MD JUCO conference) led by as many as 10 points in the second half but fell short against conference opponent Anne Arundel CC (13-5; 6-4 MD JUCO conference) 83-81 in front of a packed house.
With four players scoring in double figures, sophomore forward John Williams (Mervo/Baltimore, MD) led all Panther players with 19 points and 11 rebounds. While freshman forward Theodore West (Kensington/Philadelphia, PA) recorded his best game of the season finishing with 15 points and three rebounds.
Sophomore guard Calvert Townes (Joppatowne/Joppatowne, MD) scored his first double-double of the season with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Head coach Terry Maczko and his staff were pleased with their defensive performance in the first half of the game which the Panthers led 34-29. However, the start of the second half BCCC committed a total of 24 turnovers and 27 fouls which Anne Arundel took advantage of by scoring 54 points to the Panther's 47 points in the second half.
“We fought hard throughout the game and our team should keep their heads high and get ready for the next opponent,” said assistant coach Patrick Young. “Games like this are learning experiences and it would show the true character of this team the next time we take the court.”
Next game for the Panthers will be home on Saturday, January 30th in the Athletic Center against conference rival Frederick Community College. Tip-off is scheduled immediately following the Lady Panthers vs. ASA game. Game time for the Lady Panthers begins at 3 p.m.
