Working in conjunction with the Dean's office and other University administrative offices, the Academic Success Strategists aims to provide a comprehensive approach to the academic experience. In addition, the academic counselors serve as liaisons to members of the Baltimore City Community College faculty.

The Center for Academic Achievement (CAA) coordinates the support services areas of Tutorial Services and Learning Assistance Services. Our goal is to help you earn better grades and reach your academic goals. At the Center for Academic Achievement, tutors are available to assist students in English, Math and Reading.

Student Success Specialists are available to assist you with advising, course selection, interpretation of your placement test scores, developing an education plan for your curriculum/major, career counseling and assessment using SGI3, change of major, researching your transfer options and requirements using ARTSYS and much more. In addition, to other populations, Student Success Specialists advise first-time, full-time students until they earn 12 college credits.
Academic advising is a collaborative educational process and partnership. Students and their Student Success Specialist are partners in ensuring student academic success through identifying what is needed for achievement of the students’ personal, academic, and career goals. Here are the steps you need to take when preparing for your advisor meeting:
♦ When notified, make an appointment via email, telephone, or in person with your Student Success Specialist .
♦ Clarify personal values and goals in order to provide your Student Success Specialist with accurate information
regarding your interests and abilities.
♦ Become knowledgeable about college programs, policies, and procedures by reviewing your college catalog.
♦ Organize official documents in a way that allows you to access them when needed.
♦ Accept responsibility as you make important decisions about your education.
♦ Ask questions if you do not understand an issue or have a specific concern.
♦ Keep a personal record of your progress toward meeting your goals.
When you meet with your Student Success Specialist for Early Registration be prepared with the following materials:
♦ Student Inquiry Report (SIR) -- available in the Student Success Center
♦ College Catalog – accessible online (
www.bccc.edu) or in the Admissions Office
♦ Schedule of Classes – available online or at the Information Desks located in the Main Building
♦ Registration, Add/Drop, Withdrawal Form – located in the schedule booklet
♦ Student Satisfaction Survey form – mailed to you each semester along with your information packet

The TRIO/SSS-S.T.A.I.R.S. program is a federally funded Student Support Services program that serves 230 eligible and enrolled students at BCCC. The program is designed to increase the college retention, graduation and/or transfer rates for eligible students, and to foster an institutional climate supportive of their success.
To be eligible for the program, students must meet two or more of the following criteria:
• Be a citizen or national of the U.S. or meet the residency requirements for Federal student financial assistance,
• A first generation college student,
• Have low-income,
• An individual with disabilities,
• Have a need for academic support.
