BALTIMORE – The BCCC Panthers (12-11; 7-7 MD JUCO Conference) men's basketball team is geared up and ready to travel to the College of Southern MD (12-11; 7-6 MD JUCO Conference) for their play-in/opening round game of the MD JUCO Tournament on Tuesday, February 17th at 7 p.m.
This will be the second time this season the two teams meet. The first meeting found the Panthers on the losing end with College of Southern MD winning the game by one 67-66. Sophomore guard Calvert Townes (Joppatowne/Joppatowne, MD) and freshman guard Byron Westmoreland (Mervo/Baltimore, MD) both ended the game with 13 points.
Sophomore forward and NJCAA All-American John Williams (Mervo/Baltimore, MD) recorded a double-double finishing the game with 11 points, 10 rebounds and three assists followed by Wyatt Smith (John Carroll/Aberdeen, MD) ending the game with 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals.
The second round of the men's tournament will begin on Friday, February 19th with quarterfinal games at 1, 3, 5 and 7 p.m. Both women and men will have semi-finals on Saturday, with the women at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and the men at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The men's championship will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday and the women's final to be held at 3 p.m.
Tickets for the tournament are $10 each day or $25 for a tournament pass. Tournament programs, t-shirts and concessions will be on sale during the event.
