Panthers take on the number one seed Cecil College in the second round of the MD JUCO Tournament

BALTIMORE – The BCCC Panthers (13-11; 7-7 MD JUCO Conference) men's basketball team took round one against the College of Southern MD 87-76 Tuesday night and now face the number one seed Cecil College (20-2; 13-1 MD JUCO Conference) in the second round/quarterfinals of the MD JUCO Tournament on Friday at 7 p.m.

This will be the second time this season the two teams meet.  The first meeting found the Panthers on the losing end with Cecil College winning the game in convincing fashion 90-72.  However, the Panthers are ready to turn the tables and come out on top.

Freshman forward Wyatt Smith (John Carroll/Aberdeen, MD) ended the game against Cecil with 13 points, seven rebounds and three blocks followed by sophomore guard Calvert Townes (Joppatowne/Joppatowne, MD) with 10 points, four assists and three steals. 

Sophomore forward and NJCAA All-American John Williams (Mervo/Baltimore, MD) recorded his usual double-double finishing the game with 17 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks.

The second round of the men's tournament will begin on Friday afternoon with quarterfinal games at 1, 3, 5 and 7 p.m.  Both women and men will have semi-finals on Saturday, with the women at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and the men at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.  The men's championship will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday and the women's final to be held at 3 p.m.

Tickets for the tournament are $10 each day or $25 for a tournament pass.  Tournament programs, t-shirts and concessions will be on sale during the event.
