Largo, MD – The BCCC Panthers (14-11; 7-7 MD JUCO Conference) men's basketball team took round one against the College of Southern MD then defeated the number one seed Cecil College 80-75 last night to advance in the semifinal round to face the Cougars of Frederick Community College (14-9; 8-5 MD JUCO Conference). Game time is set at 7 p.m.
This will be the second time this season the two teams meet. The first meeting found the Panthers on the winning end against Frederick beating them at home 92-77.
Freshman guard Byron Westmoreland (Mervo/Baltimore, MD) ended the game against the Cougars with a game high 23 points, nine rebounds and six blocks. While sophomore guard Calvert Townes (Joppatowne/Joppatowne, MD) finished the game with a season high 21 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and four steals.
Freshman Carlos Smith (Forest Park/Baltimore, MD) had a strong performance coming off the bench ending the game with 10 points, three rebounds and five blocks.
Both women and men will have semi-finals on Saturday, with the women at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and the men at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The men's championship will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday and the women's final to be held at 3 p.m.
Tickets for the tournament are $10 each day or $25 for a tournament pass. Tournament programs, t-shirts and concessions will be on sale during the event.
