Largo, MD – The battle was on when these two teams met for the second time this season which found the Lady Panthers (19-0; 11-0 MD JUCO Conference) on the winning end against Garrett College (9-8; 5-4 MD JUCO Conference). The final score of the game highlighted in favor of BCCC 50-42.
Freshman Tanira McClurkin (St. Frances/Baltimore, MD) led the Panthers with a team high 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and eight steals. While freshman Ciarra Lucas (Old Mill/Baltimore, MD) led the team with her defensive pressure and ended the game with 10 points, three rebounds, six assists, two steals and a season high six blocks.
The Lady Lakers of Garrett College put up a battle when they found themselves down by 13 points at the sound of the halftime buzzer. The team was able to capitalize on BCCC's mistakes which led to the Lady Panthers turning the ball over 28 times.
Nevertheless, BCCC maintained their momentum and never gave up their lead in the game. Head coach Renard Smith knew Garrett was going to come out tough in the second half and as he stated, “this will be a battle to the finish.”
Coming off the bench and providing an outstanding defensive presence was sophomore guard Kiara Stubbs (Western/Baltimore, MD) along with sophomore forward Shavon Scott (Western Tech/Baltimore, MD) ending the with five points, five rebounds, four steals and one block.
Therefore, BCCC Lady Panthers continued to extend their undefeated season and is now back in the championship game and one win away from reclaiming the MD JUCO Conference crown from years past.
Next game for the Lady Panthers will be the rematch game of last year's finals against Allegany College. BCCC lost by one point in an up tempo game 51-50. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
The Panthers men's basketball team also advanced to the championship game to take on MC-Germantown at 1 p.m. College.
Tickets for the tournament are $10 each day or $25 for a tournament pass. Tournament programs, t-shirts and concessions will be on sale during the event.
