The Panthers defeated Frederick and advance to the championship game on Sunday

Largo, MD – Get out the butter because the Panthers are on a roll.  The hot streak has continued which found Frederick Community College on the losing 68-61.  By defeating Frederick, BCCC has earned a trip to the championship game against MC-Germantown.  Game time is set for 1 p.m. 

“You did what you had to do when listening to your coaches and believing in your team,” stated by head coach Terry Maczko after the game.  “Let's savor this moment on our way home but we still have work to do.”

Leading the team in scoring was freshman forward Wyatt Smith (John Carroll/Aberdeen, MD) finishing the game with 13 points, five rebounds and one blocked shot.  Sophomore guard Calvert Townes (Joppatowne/Joppatowne, MD) led the team with his leadership as well as his 11 points, five rebounds and six assists. 

The Panthers controlled the ball in the entire game and never trailed; however, the momentum began to shift in the second half.  After Frederick found themselves down by 16 points at the half, they turned up the pressure and was able to capitalize on BCCC's mistakes.  Nevertheless, the Panthers maintained their composure and were able to hold onto their lead. 

Freshman forward Carlos Smith (Forest Park/Baltimore, MD) was two blocks short of a double-double ending the game with 10 points, five rebounds, three assists, three steals and eight blocks.  Smith is number one in the state in blocks with 4.3 per game. 

Next game for the Panthers will be MC-Germantown in the championship game of the tournament.  This will be the first meeting with the two teams due to the regular season game was canceled by the snow storm.  Last year BCCC defeated MC-Germantown 72-64 at their home on sophomore day.

The Lady Panthers of Baltimore City Community College also advanced to the championship game to take on Allegany College at 3 p.m.  This game is a rematch of last year's championship game which Allegany defeated BCCC by one point, 51-50. 

Tickets for the tournament are $10 each day or $25 for a tournament pass.  Tournament programs, t-shirts and concessions will be on sale during the event.
