Lady Panthers defeated Garrett College to earn a trip to the Region XX Championship Game

Sophomore Shavon Scott led the team with a career high 18 points, three rebounds and three steals.

FREDERICK, Md – The Baltimore City Community College Lady Panthers (22-0; 10-0 MD JUCO Conference) and head coach Renard Smith took one step closer in claiming another championship this season.  BCCC defeated Garrett College (9-9; 5-4 MD JUCO Conference) 73-39 in the semi-final game of the Region XX Tournament. 

Sophomore forward Shavon Scott (Western Tech/Baltimore) led the Panthers with a career high 18 points, three rebounds, one assist, three steals and one blocked shot.  While freshman Ciarra Lucas (Old Mill/Baltimore) led the team on the defensive side of the ball with three steals and three blocked shots to go along with 15 points, seven rebounds and five assists.   

The Lady Lakers of Garrett College put up a battle at the start of the game; however, by halftime they found themselves down 37-18.  The team was able to capitalize on Garrett's BCCC's mistakes which led the Lady Panthers to a 19 point lead. 

From the start of the second half, BCCC did not let up and maintained their defensive pressure and took advantage of Garrett's mistakes.  Sophomore Charda Lomax (Frederick Douglass/Baltimore) led the team in steals with 10 to go along with her eight points, five rebounds and six assists.    

Coming off the bench and providing that balance attack of offense and defense was freshman Chanet Wallace (Edmondson/Baltimore) ending the game with nine points and two rebounds. 

Next game for the Lady Panthers will be the championship game against Prince George's Community College at 1 p.m. on the campus of Frederick Community College.  This will be the second meeting this year between the two teams.  BCCC outscored Prince George's 70-44 behind hot shooting sensation Lucas ending the game with a game high 23 points. 

Tickets for the tournament are $5 each day for adults and $3.00 for children or $10 for a tournament pass.  Tournament programs, t-shirts and concessions will be on sale during the event.
