BCCC Will Host 1st Annual Baltimore City Legends Classic

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Baltimore City Community College men's and women's basketball team will host the 1st Annual Baltimore City Legends Classic, which will be held from Friday through Sunday at the P.E. Center. The teams that will be participating on the men's side will be ASA College and Navy JV and on the women's side ASA College, Harcum Community College, and Monroe College.
 
The men's team will kick off the event with a game against ASA College on Friday night at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, three games will be played starting with Harcum Community College vs. Monroe College women's teams at 2 p.m. That game will be followed by ASA College vs. Baltimore City CC women's teams at 4 p.m. The night game will be Navy JV vs. Baltimore City CC men's game at 6 p.m.
 
On Sunday, there will be two women's games the first starting at 2 p.m. ASA College vs. Harcum Community College and then at 4 p.m. Monroe College vs. Baltimore City CC.   
 
On Saturday, the following individuals will be recognized: Roger Dickens, George "Jerry" Phipps and John C. Rhames.
 
Dickens played for Hall of Fame Coach Jerry Phipps from 1973-75 and coached the men's basketball team at the Community College of Baltimore (CCB) and Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) from 1982-2007. The 1997-98 season was an extremely successful one, as the Red Devils won the MD JUCO and Region XX Tournament titles and finished fifth in the nation at the NJCAA National Tournament.  
 
George "Jerry" Phipps spent 14 years working at the Community College of Baltimore in various capacities, including men's basketball coach and athletic director from 1968-1982. Phipps amassed a 360-87 record in 14 seasons, having 12 seasons of 20 or more wins, including four with 30 or more. Phipps also won 12 Maryland JUCO Championships and five Region XX titles.
 
John C. Rhames led the Red Devil women's basketball team at the Community College of Baltimore (CCB) and Baltimore City Community College (BCCC) from 1978-2000, compiling a 456-231 record along the way. Under Rhames, the Red Devils won three Maryland JUCO (MD JUCO) Conference Tournaments, five Region XX Championships, and made five appearances in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Women's Tournament.
 
General admissions will be $5.00, $2.00 for BCPS and free admissions for faculty and students with a valid I.D.
