BALTIMORE, Md. – Despite putting on the best performance of the 2010 season, the Baltimore City Community College volleyball suffered a tough 3-0 loss (25-19, 25-15, 25-20) to Chesapeake Community College on Friday afternoon at the BCCC P.E. Center.
BCCC (0-8) recorded season-highs in kills (13), hitting percentage (.282), assists (11) and points scored in a set (20). Individually, Sharay Cross (Baltimore, Md.) had a season- and team-high eight assists.
Chesapeake (1-6) struggled through the first two sets, but managed to pull out the wins in each one. The Lady Panthers came out fighting in the third set, however, and tied things at 10-all after an attack error by Chesapeake's Jackie Buswell.
Down 23-16, the Lady Panthers scored four straight points to close the gap to three points, 23-20. But a service error by Kasha Gamble (Baltimore, Md.) and a kill by Buswell gave Chesapeake its first win of the season.
Buswell led all players with 14 kills and added six aces while hitting .360. Rebecca Wooten had 11 assists, five service aces and a team-high .833 hitting percentage.
Shray Roberts (Baltimore, Md.), Cross and Gamble each had three kills for BCCC. Roberts and Gamble each had one solo block and Roberts added two aces and two digs.
BCCC hits the road for a match at Frederick Community College in Frederick, Md. at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
