BALTIMORE, Md. – Sophomore guard Micah Fraction (Silver Spring, Md./Montrose Christian) scored a game-high 18 points in 22 minutes to lead the Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team to a 96-37 rout of the Stevenson University Junior Varsity team on Tuesday afternoon at the BCCC P.E. Center.
The Panthers, who played in front of a Youth Day crowd of 570 fans, improved to 4-1 with the win and increased their winning streak to four games. Youth from 14 area elementary and middle schools were on hand to see the Panthers' big win.
Fraction was 7-of-9 from the field, including 1-of-2 from 3-point range. Freshman guard Kendal Williams (Dover, Del./Dover HS) was the second Panther starter to score in double figures. He ended the game with 12 points and three rebounds in 12 minutes.
BCCC got a whopping 54 points from its bench and scored 49 points on SU 42 turnovers. Alex Weaver (Washington, D.C./Archbishop Carroll HS), Ray Watson (Fairfax, Va./Jeb Stuart HS) and Sharahd Conley (Odenton, Md./Arundel HS) had 13, 12 and 10 points, respectively, off the bench. Weaver and Watson each grabbed seven rebounds.
The Panthers opened up the game on an 18-0 run, capped by a jumper by Christian Diboko (Kinshasa, Congo/St. Moulin HS) with 14:31 left in the opening period. SU managed just 15 points in the first half and were down by 49 (64-15) at halftime.
The second half was a bit more even, but SU (0-1) could not overcome the large first-half deficit.
Jalen Lester and Miles Ripley led the Mustangs with eight points apiece, while Lawrence Hicks had a game-high nine boards.
The Panthers return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday when they host CCBC-Catonsville in their MD JUCO conference opener.
