BALTIMORE, Md. – Baltimore City Community College guard Micah Fraction (Silver Spring, Md./Montrose Christian) was fouled while shooting a 3-pointer with three seconds left in the game and connected on the ensuing three free throws to help BCCC (5-1 overall, 1-0 MD JCUO) to a 81-78 win over CCBC-Catonsville on Saturday afternoon at the BCCC P.E. Center.
Mark Alston hit a jumper with 24 seconds left to force the fourth tie of the contest, 78-all. After the inbound pass, the Panthers got the ball to Fraction who pulled up for the 3-pointer and was fouled by Brandon Fields. For the game, Fraction was 11-of-12 from the charity stripe and ended with a game-high 22 points.
The game was close from beginning to end and both teams played almost evenly. The major difference came at the free-throw line. BCCC was 27-of-37 from the foul line, while Catonsville (1-3, 1-1 MD JUCO) hit 14 of its 27 free throws. The Panthers also forced 25 Cardinal turnovers and converted them into 25 points.
James Hopkins and A.J. Arthur each had 13 points for Catonsville. Fields and Kevin Jackson contributed 11 points each, while William Todd added 10. Fields dished out a game-high nine assists.
Michael Henry (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills HS) recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds for BCCC. Brandon Belt (Odenton, Md./Arundel HS) also scored in double figures with 11 points.
The Panthers get just one day of rest before they travel to McHenry, Md. to take on Garret College at 7 p.m. on Monday.
