BALTIMORE, Md. – Omar Strong scored a game-high 30 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field as the Cecil College men's basketball team posted a 101-75 win over Baltimore City Community College on Saturday afternoon at the BCCC P.E. Center. Cecil's win snapped a season-long seven-game win streak for the Panthers.
Strong went 5-of-10 from 3-point range and was a perfect 9-of-9 from the free-throw line. He added two rebounds and two steals in a game-high 35 minutes.
Both teams played evenly for most of the first half. A pair of free throws by Strong with 5:13 left in the first half put Cecil (8-1, 4-0 MD JUCO) up 33-31. But two foul shots by Michael Henry (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills HS) forced the seventh tie of the game, 33-all.
Cecil regained the lead on a dunk by Brandon Green with 3:52 left in the opening period and the Seahawks took a seven-point advantage (46-39) into halftime.
In the second half, the Seahawks clicked on offense and defense and outscored BCCC (7-2, 3-1 MD JUCO) 55-36.
Jermaine Edwards had 23 points and 12 rebounds for Cecil. Green and Darius Clark also scored in double figures with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Micah Fraction (Silver Spring, Md./Montrose Christian) led BCCC with 20 points and dished out a game-high five assists. Brandon Belt (Odenton, Md./Arundel HS) had 17 points, while Eric Barksdale (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) recorded 11 points.
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday when they host Anne Arundel Community College at 7 p.m.
