BCCC Men Rally to Defeat Howard CC 96-86

COLUMBIA, Md.Micah Fraction (Silver Spring, Md./Montrose Christian) scored 28 of his game- and career-high 45 points in the second half to help the Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team to a 96-86 win over Howard Community College on Wednesday night at the HCC Gymnasium.

Fraction was 12-of-21 from the field for the game, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range and 19-of-22 from the free-throw line. He added eight rebounds, three assists and two steals in 36 minutes.

The Panthers (14-6, 7-3 MD JUCO) got out to fast start and led by 16 points, 27-11, with 11:27 left in the first half. But Howard (6-9, 3-5 MD JUCO) took the lead on a jumper by Sean Sullivan with 5:08 left in the half. A 3-pointer by Trey Cole with 22 seconds left in the opening period gave the Dragons a 44-38 halftime lead.

Howard led for most of the second half until a layup by Christian Diboko (Kinshasa, Congo) with 7:34 left in the game put BCCC up 72-74. A pair of free throws by Craig Ryan (Baltimore, Md./John Carroll HS) gave the Panthers a 12-point lead, 91-79, with 2:03 left in the game. The Dragons could get no closer than nine the rest of the way.

Sullivan and Donnell Parker each had 13 points for Howard. Aaron Bellamy had 11, while Angelo Adon and Quante Newton each had 10.

Brandon Belt (Odenton, Md./Arundel HS) finished with 15 points and five rebounds for the Panthers. Michael Henry (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills HS) had a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds and Eric Barksdale (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) also scored in double figures with 11 points.

BCCC travels to Harford Community College on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game.
