BALTIMORE, Md. –
Warren Wright (Baltimore, Md./Northwestern HS) scored a team-leading 21 points on 8-of-19 shooting from the floor and 5-of-7 shooting from the free-throw line to lead the Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team to an 85-73 win over Montgomery College-Takoma Park/Silver Spring on Saturday afternoon at the BCCC P.E. Center.
Wright added six rebounds, five steals and two assists in a game-high 35 minutes.
The Panthers (3-1) handed the Falcons their first loss of the season, dropping them to 3-1.
Takoma Park took control of the game early, outscoring BCCC 19-6 in the first seven minutes of the game. But the Panthers slowly chipped away at the lead and went up by two, 30-28, after a pair of free throws by Zafir Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Vaux HS) with 4:45 left in the first half.
The game went back and forth for the remainder of the period, but BCCC went into halftime with a 41-36 advantage.
The Panthers came out focused in the second half, starting the final period with an 11-6 run that was capped by a layup by Christian Diboko (Kinshasa, Congo/St. Moulin HS) at the 16:41 mark.
The Falcons came within six, 60-54, after a jumper by Marcellus Watson with 12:36 left in the game, but they could get no closer the rest of the way.
Watson led all players with 25 points. Roderick Smith added 15 points for Takoma Park.
For BCCC, Theo West (Philadelphia, Pa./Kensington HS) had a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Williams had 13 points, four rebounds and two steals, while Diboko had four points, five boards and a game-high two blocks.
Donte Stuckey (Baltimore, Md./Walbrook HS) also scored in double figures with 10 points and added six rebounds. Karrell Goines (Baltimore, Md./Patterson HS) contributed nine points and two steals.
The Panthers return to the hardwood on Thursday, November 17 at CCBC-Catonsville in Catonsville, Md. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
