BALTIMORE, Md. – The Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team went 3-0 in the 2011 Ben Williams Classic. The Panthers defeated Potomac State College 104-102 on Friday afternoon, Jamestown Community College 80-79 on Saturday night and Beaver County Community College 88-86 on Sunday afternoon.
In the high-scoring game against Potomac State, BCCC (10-3) had four players record double-digit scoring. Theo West (Philadelphia, Pa./Kensington HS) led the way with 29 points, while Carlos Smith (Baltimore, Md./Forest Park HS) and Zafir Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Vaux HS) each had 19. Xavier Drake (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) added 10 points.
Against Jamestown, Smith led the way with 23 points and West poured in 22. Drake contributed 11 to lead the Panthers to their second win of the weekend.
An all-around effort and hot offensive outing carried BCCC to its third win of the tournament in the defeat of Beaver County. Smith and Warren Wright (Baltimore, Md./Northwestern HS) scored 21 points apiece, while West and Williams both contributed 15.
The Panthers travel to Panama City, Fla. to participate in the Gulf Coast Community College Tournament from Dec. 29-31.
