BALTIMORE, Md. – Stephen Griffin banked a jumper with 15:10 left in the game to break a 52-all tie and give the Prince George's Community College men's basketball team the lead for good in the Owls' 78-73 win over Baltimore City Community College on Saturday afternoon at the BCCC P.E. Center.
BCCC (17-9, 10-6 MD JUCO) could get no closer than three (76-73) the rest of the way.
The game was close for much of the first half until the Panthers went on a 14-4 run, capped by a 3-pointer by Craig Ryan (Baltimore, Md./John Carroll HS) with 1:26 left in the period. Antoine Brown hit a layup nine seconds later to cut the deficit to seven just before halftime.
Prince George's (14-12, 9-6 MD JUCO) came out focused in the second half and outscored the Panthers 15-8 to tie the game at 52-all.
Brown tallied a team-high 18 points and added nine rebounds, while Griffin contributed 15 points for the Owls. Donald Williams and Michael Gonzales each had 12 points and Dominique Benonh-Tolly finished with 10 points and two blocks. Azel Prather grabbed a game-high 17 points to go along with his nine points and three steals.
Brandon Belt (Odenton, Md./Arundel HS) scored a game-high 21 points and Micah Fraction (Silver Spring, Md./Montrose Christian) had 20 points and five assists. Ryan also scored in double figures with 11 points. Eric Barksdale (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) had nine points, six assists and four boards.
