BCCC Men Ousted from MD JUCO Tournament with 93-81 Loss to No. 2 Frederick

FRDERICK, Md.
– Frederick Community College, the No. 2 seed in the 2011 Maryland JUCO Men's Basketball Tournament, lived up to its billing by defeating No. 7 Baltimore City Community College 93-81 in the quarterfinal round on Friday night at the FCC Cougar Dome.

Frederick (22-5) advances to the semifinal round on Saturday and will take on No. 3 Allegany at 7 p.m. BCCC (18-10) has qualified for the 2011 Region XX Tournament, hosted by Hagerstown Community College from February 24-27. Seedings will be released on Sunday, February 20.

Frederick got on the board first with a layup by Mitchell Weedon with 18:16 left in the first half. The Cougars went on to outscore the Panthers 10-1 over the next two minutes with all 10 points coming Anthony Hubbard.

BCCC rallied over the next few minutes to get within five, 19-14, after a layup by Kenny Bey-Brown(Philadelphia, Pa.) with 11:05 left in the opening period. At halftime, the Panthers found themselves down by 11, 42-31.

In the second half, the Cougars led by as many as 15, 60-45, at the 13:05 mark. But BCCC was able to get within two, 75-73, with 4:32 left in the game. Frederick outscored the Panthers 18-8 the rest of the way for the win.

Hubbard led the Cougars with a game-high 30 points. Weedon and TJ Wilson each recorded double-doubles in points and rebounds. Weedon had 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Wilson had 12 points and 12 boards.

Kendal Williams (Dover, Del.) scored a team-high 19 points for the Panthers. BCCC's leading scorer on the season Micah Fraction (Silver Spring, Md./Montrose Christian) was limited to just 16 points. Brandon Belt (Odenton, Md./Arundel HS) added 13 points and five rebounds, while Bey-Brown finished with 10 points. Christian Diboko (Kinshasa, Congo) grabbed a team-high six rebounds to go with his four points and team-high two blocks.
