Fraction Leads Panthers Past Potomac State College in Region XX Tournament

Micah Fraction scored a game-high 31 points to lead BCCC to an 82-68 win.

HAGERSTOWN, Md. – Baltimore City Community College sophomore guard Micah Fraction (Silver Spring, Md./Montrose Christian) scored a game-high 31 points to lead the No. 3 Panthers to an 82-68 win over No. 6 Potomac State College at the RAC Center on Friday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Region XX Tournament.

BCCC (19-10) advances to the semifinal round and will play the winner of the No. 2 CCBC-Essex-No. 7 Chesapeake game at 1 p.m. on Saturday. BCCC lost to Essex 103-100 in overtime on February 4 and beat Chesapeake 94-86 (OT) in December and 113-107 10 days ago in the first round of the Maryland JUCO Conference Tournament.

The Panthers dominated the game from early on, scoring first on a pair of free throws by Fraction 15 seconds into the contest. Potomac State (16-13) took its only lead of the game, 10-8, after a layup by Carlton Johnson with 14:01 left in the first half. But Fraction answered on the other end with a jumper and Michael Henry (Owings Mills, Md./Owings Mills HS) banked a layup to give the Panthers the lead for good.

BCCC went into halftime with a 39-32 advantage and quickly opened up A 16-point lead after a 3-pointer by Eric Barksdale (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) with 9:54 left in the game. A pair of free throws by Fraction at the 2:27 mark gave the Panthers their largest lead of the game, 21 points (81-60).

Johnson led PSC with 26 points. Maurice Newby had a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Darrell Patterson had 14 points.

Kendal Williams (Dover, Del.) scored 15 points and added five rebounds and three assists.
Craig Ryan (Baltimore, Md./John Carroll HS) also scored in double figures with 11 points. Defensively, Christian Diboko (Kinshasa, Congo) grabbed a team-high 13 boards and Henry had 12.
