Lady Panthers Drop Home Opener to MC-Rockville, 3-1

. – Tori Kenno had a match-high 16 kills and teammate Cynthia Alpharo added 10 to lead the Montgomery College-Rockville women's volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Baltimore City Community College on Wednesday night at the BCCC P.E. Center. The Knights (5-0) won 22-25, 27-25, 25-10, 25-12.

BCCC (0-2) came out hot in the first set, winning it and taking a lead in the match. But Rockville was able to pull off three straight wins to claim the victory.

The second set was close down to the last points. A kill by Danielle Standley (Baltimore, Md./Millford Mill Academy) tied the set at 24-all and the Lady Panthers went up by one after an attack error by Kenno. But things got tied up again after a service error by Myrtice Jackson (Baltimore, Md./Mergenthaler HS). Back-to-back kills by the Knights gave them the two-point advantage they needed for the win.

Rockville cruised easily to wins in sets 3 and 4 to take the match.

Kim Lam had a match-high 30 assists and Kenno added three service aces and two digs.

For BCCC, Kourtney Anderson (Baltimore, Md./City College HS) led the way with eight kills and five digs. Rachael Griffith (Baltimore, Md./Western HS) tallied 11 assists and three digs. Jackson had six kills, three digs and one ace, while Standley had four kills.

The Lady Panthers host the 2011 Charm City Volleyball Tournament this Saturday starting at 12 p.m. at the P.E. Center. Tournament participants include Anne Arundel Community College, CCBC-Essex, Chesapeake College and BCCC. Eight matches will be played on two courts, with the championship and consolation matches being played at 4:30 p.m. Admission is free, but the Lady Panthers are taking donations for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Baltimore Foundation.
