BALTIMORE, Md. –
Carlos Smith (Baltimore, Md./Forest Park HS) led five Baltimore City Community College men's basketball players in double-figure scoring with 17 points as the BCCC Panthers defeated the Howard Community College Dragons 64-57 on Saturday night at the BCCC P.E. Center.
Howard (7-8, 4-4 MD JUCO) led for much of the first half and took a 30-29 lead into halftime.
The Panthers (13-6, 7-2 MD JUCO) found themselves trailing by 10 points, 45-35, after one of two free throws by Howard's Nicolas Jones with 12:18 left in the game. But BCCC went on a 15-4 run capped by a jumper by Karrell Goines (Baltimore, Md./Patterson HS) at the 7:13 mark to take a 50-49 lead.
The Dragons came within one, 54-53, after a bucket by Jeffrey James with 2:27 left, but could get no closer.
Peter James and Dolapo Olugbile each had 11 points for Howard. Olugbile and Devin Payton each tallied nine rebounds.
Sean Farr (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) recorded 15 points and five rebounds, while Donte Stuckey (Baltimore, Md./Walbrook HS) and Warren Wright (Baltimore, Md./Northwestern HS) each contributed 11 points. Goines also scored in double figures with 10 points and had a game-high five assists in a game-best 39 minutes.
The Panthers return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Montgomery College-Rockville. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
