Smith’s Career Night Leads Panthers to 5th Straight Win

Carlos Smith had a career-high 41 points in the win over Chesapeake College.

WYE MILLS, Md.Carlos Smith (Baltimore, Md./Forest Park HS) scored a career-high 41 points to carry the Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team to its fifth straight win in an 85-80 victory over Chesapeake College on Friday night at the Chesapeake College Gym.

Smith was 16-of-23 from the field and 9-of-16 from the free-throw line. He also had 13 rebounds, four assists and three blocks in 37 minutes of play.

Chesapeake (9-10, 4-5 MD JUCO) scored the first five points of the game. BCCC (15-6, 9-2 MD JUCO) got on the board with a jumper by Sean Farr (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) with 18:46 left in the first half. A bucket by Smith at the 16:32 mark put the Panthers up 8-7, giving them a lead they would hold on to for the rest of the game.

BCCC went on a 26-13 run to take a 46-28 lead into halftime. Smith had 23 points at the break.

Late in the second half, the Skipjacks cut the lead to 10, 80-70, after a basket by Rockeem Harris with 1:54 left in the game. Chesapeake slowly chipped away at the lead, but could get no closer than five points.

Gamari Mayfield led Chesapeake with 26 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. Harris and Delfawn Worrells each contributed 13 points.

Farr finished with 11 points and six rebounds and Warren Wright (Baltimore, Md./Northwestern HS) had 10 points. Zafir Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Vaux HS) had a game-high eight assists and Karrell Goines (Baltimore, Md./Patterson HS) had six.

The Panthers look to keep their winning streak alive when they host Allegany College of Maryland at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
