BALTIMORE, Md. –
Sean Farr (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) and
Kendal Williams (Dover, Del./Dover HS) each scored a team-high 17 points to lead the Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team to an 81-77 win over Essex County College on Saturday afternoon at the BCCC P.E. Center.
ECC (1-1) got off to a fast start and took an 18-7 lead in just under the first seven minutes of the game. But BCCC (1-0) got things going and went on an 11-2 run, capped by a dunk by Farr with 10:17 left in the half, to get within two points (20-18).
The Panthers scored 10 points in less than two minutes to take their first lead of the game, 31-30, after a layup by
Quentin Judd (Baltimore, Md./Forest Park HS) at the 6:06 mark. The teams traded baskets over the final five minutes of the opening period and BCCC took a 44-37 lead into halftime.
The Panthers came out hot to start the second half, going on a 22-9 run to take a 66-46 lead with 12:37 left in the game. The Wolverines slowly chipped away at the Panthers' lead to get within one, 76-75, after a basket by Kevin Brown with 1:58 left. But BCCC hit a few key free throws to seal the win.
Neville Joseph scored a game-high 21 points and had six rebounds for ECC. Vincent Walls had 18 points off the bench and Eddie Brown contributed 12 points and five boards.
Akeem Echols (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood HS) and
Will Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep HS) also scored in double figures for the Panthers with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Justin Kuntz (Baltimore, Md./Polk College) and
Dwayne Brewer (Baltimore, Md./Douglass HS) each had eight points and Farr added a team-high five rebounds and three assists, two steals and a block.
BCCC travels to Essex, Md. on Tuesday to take on CCBC-Essex at 7 p.m.
