WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season after falling 76-72 to Brunswick Community College on Saturday afternoon on the final day of the Cape Fear Community College Classic.
BCCC (3-1) jumped out to a 23-10 lead early in the game, but would be outscored by Brunswick (1-3) 23-11 for the remainder of the first half. A turnover plagued half stifled the Panthers' offensive flow but they managed to take a one point lead going into the half (34-33).
Quentin Judd (Baltimore, Md./Pensacola State College) was the only player in double figures in the first half with 10 points shooting 4-of-6 from the field, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range.
The Dolphins would lead by seven, 41-34, early in the second half before the Panthers would finally respond. The Panthers took a two point lead, 63-61, on an
Aaron Parham (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) layup with 5:07 left in the game. A Demarkus Forbes 3-pointer seconds later would regain the lead for Brunswick and never gave it back up.
Turnovers (29) and missed free throws (5-of-10) in the game were crucial contributing factors in the loss for the Panthers.
The Dolphins were led by Quinton Morrow with a game-high 18 points and added three rebounds and one assist. Forbes and Makenzi Kurvits-Statum both scored 10 points each. Khari Faison had a game-high 14 rebounds while chipping in nine points.
Will Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep HS) led the team in scoring with 15 points and added four rebounds, one steal and a block off the bench.
Dwayne Brewer (Baltimore, Md./Douglass HS) had 14 points, three rebounds, three steals and one assist.
Judd finished with 13 points for the game. Parham contributed 12 points, six boards, two blocks and two steals and
Kendal Williams (Dover, Del./Dover HS) scored 10 points and added five rebounds and two assists.
The Panthers will travel to Cumberland, Md. on Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. game against Allegany College of Maryland.
