BALTIMORE, Md. – Justin Kuntz (Baltimore, Md./Glen Burnie HS) recorded his third double-double of the season with 23 points and a game-high 17 rebounds and added six assists to lead the Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team to a 107-102 win over the College of Southern Maryland on Wednesday afternoon at the BCCC P.E. BCCC improves to 9-3 overall and 7-0 in MD JUCO play with the win. CMS falls to 4-10 on the season and 2-5 in conference play. The Panthers played in front of a large Youth Day crowd of local middle schoolers who witnessed the championship ring presentation for the 2011-12 men's team prior to the start of the game.

The teams traded baskets for much of the first half. CSM opened up the first real lead after one of two free throws by Juwan Cole with 9:26 left in the first half that put the Hawks up 26-20. But the Panthers went on an 11-0 run that ended on a dunk by Will Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./Towson University) at the 6:31 mark to give BCCC a 31-26 advantage.

The Hawks got within four, 40-36, after a 3-pointer by Isaac Fulwood with 3:15 left in the first half, but the Panthers kept pushing and took a 52-45 lead into halftime.

The momentum swayed back and forth in favor of both teams as the second half progressed. Both teams went on runs of their own, but the Panthers were able to hang on to the lead for the last 20 minutes.

The Hawks got hot toward the end of the game, though, cutting BCCC's lead to just two, 102-100, on a Sigourney Jackson layup with 0:57 left in the game. A tip-in by Kendal Williams (Dover, Del./Dover HS) and three of four free throws by Mike Wilson (Philadelphia, Pa./Monroe) sealed the win for BCCC.

Troy Cummings led five Hawk players in double-figure scoring with 23 points and added six rebounds and two steals. Devon Brown finished with 19 points, five rebounds and two steals, while Sigourney Jackson dropped 18 points off the bench. Cole and Sedric Baker scored 16 and 15 points, respectfully.

For BCCC, Adams and Sean Farr (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) both scored 17 points and combined for 17 rebounds and six assists. Xavier Richards (St. Thomas, U.S.V.I./Gwynn Park HS) was a huge spark off the bench with 15 points, eight boards and three assists.

Williams had 12 points, six assists, and four boards and Wilson ended the game with 11 points and a season-high nine assists. Dwayne Brewer (Baltimore, Md./Douglass HS) finished with 10 points.

BCCC hosts the annual Ben Williams Classic this weekend. Tournament participants include Frederick Community College, Globe Institute of Technology and Roxbury College. The Panthers take on Globe at 7 p.m. on Saturday and Roxbury CC at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
