Panthers Narrowly Beat Globe Institute 79-75

BALTIMORE, Md
. - The Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team narrowly escaped with a 79-75 win over Globe Institute of Technology on Saturday night at the BCCC P.E. Center in the 2012 Ben Williams Classic. BCCC once again held on late to collect its 10th win of the season.
 
Both teams struggled to gain control as there were three lead changes and seven ties in the first 12:30 of the game. The Panthers broke the last tie of the first half after a pair of free throws by Sean Farr (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) with 8:30 remaining to put BCCC (10-3) up 23-22.
 
The Panthers led the Knights (7-3) by as many as 11, 37-26, late in the first half after a jumper by Xavier Richards (U.S.V.I., St. Thomas/Gwynn Park HS) with 2:17 left in the opening period. The Panthers entered the break leading 37-28.
 
In the second half, BCCC kept rolling and broke out to a 16-point lead (49-33) after Will Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./Towson) connected from long range at the 14:55 mark. The Knights fought back and pulled within three, 50-47, after Dana Taylor knocked down two free throws with 10:40 to go.  
 
BCCC responded with a 15-8 run, pushing the lead back to 10, 65-55. Globe answered with a 15-5 run of its own tying the game at 70-all with 2:40 left after a Thomas Moore jumper. The Panthers outscored the Knights 9-5 for the remainder of the game to seal the win.
 
Thomas Moore and Timothy Jackson each had 15 points for Globe. Moore also had a game-high six assists and added four rebounds while Jackson had three steals, two rebounds and two blocks. David Mofunanya finished with 11 points, while Devon Walker had 10 points and five rebounds.
 
For BCCC, Kendal Williams (Dover, Del./Dover HS) had 19 points, four assists, two boards and two steals. Justin Kuntz (Baltimore, Md./Glen Burnie HS) posted his second consecutive double-double and fourth of the season with 15 points and 19 boards to go along with three steals and two assists.
 
Farr finished with 12 points and four rebounds.
 
The Panthers return to action on Sunday at 3 p.m. against Roxbury Community College.
