Richmond Leads Broward College to 78-75 Win over BCCC

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Dashawn Richmond scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Broward College men's basketball team to a 78-75 win over Baltimore City Community College on Wednesday night at the George E. Mayer Gymnasium. Richmond shot 11-of-18 from the floor for the game and added 10 rebounds, six steals and two blocks.

The loss ended BCCC's three-game winning streak, dropping the Panthers to 11-4 on the season.  

Both teams exchanged baskets in the early part of the game. The Seahawks (12-3) jumped out to the biggest lead of the half, 20-14, after a pair of Richmond free throws with 12:34 left in the first half. The Panthers were able to cut the lead to 40-38 going into the break.

In the second half, the Seahawks put together an 18-11 run to take a 58-49 lead after two free throws by Luis Dinolis with 11:08 left in the game.  The Panthers used a 22-11 run from that point to take a 71-69 lead with 2:41 remaining after Will Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./Towson) connected from long range.

The game was tied at 75-all with 41 seconds left and a circus shot by Chris Gayot at the 17-second mark gave the Seahawks the lead for good. Kendal Williams (Dover, Del./Dover HS) had a chance to tie the game at the other end, but the shot clanked off the right iron.  

Broward's Steven Gomes scored 17 points and had three rebounds for the game.

For BCCC, Adams led the team with 20 points and Williams finished with 15 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Justin Kuntz (Baltimore,Md./Glen Burnie HS) chipped in with 10 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

The Panthers will be in action against Miami-Dade College in Miami, Fla. on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
