COLUMBIA, Md. – The Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team edged out Howard Community College in a 104-98 win at the Howard Athletic and Fitness Center on Monday night. BCCC (7-1, 5-0 MD JUCO) claimed the top spot in the conference standings with the win after its second consecutive game of scoring over 100 points.
The Panthers started the game on a dominating 21-8 run that was capped by a layup by
Aaron Parham (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) with 14:33 left in the first half. BCCC controlled the entire first half, leading by as many as 17 points (50-33) along the way. The Panthers took a 52-38 lead at halftime.
Howard (5-4, 2-1) came to life in the second half and outscored BCCC 60-52 in the final 20 minutes of the game. The Dragons slowly chipped away at the Panthers' lead, getting within six points (68-62) on a basket by Jazmon Harris with 11:12 left in the game.
BCCC extended the lead to 13, 76-63, after four free throws by
Will Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./Towson) as a result of back-to-back fouls (including a technical) being assessed on Dolapo Olugbile at the 9:38 mark.
Howard made its last run in the final minutes of the game, getting within three, 94-91, after a Tyrell Addison layup with 2:48 left. The Dragons ran out of gas as the Panthers went on a 10-7 run to seal the win.
Addision led four Howard players in double figure scoring with 17 points. James Peters finished with 16 points and two steals, while Alie Kondeh and Joshua Johnson each had 14 points and combined for 10 rebounds and five steals. James Bartnick passed out a game-high 12 assists.
Quentin Judd (Baltimore, Md./Pensacola State College) tallied a game-high 27 points on 9-of-14 shooting from the field and 7-of-10 from the charity stripe in his first start of the season. He added four rebounds and two assists. Adams recorded 25 points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists off the bench.
Sean Farr (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) finished with 17 points, five rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks and
Kendal Williams (Dover, Del./Dover HS) had 15 points, six assists and four rebounds.
BCCC returns to the P.E. Center after a seven-game road swing to host Cecil College on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
