BALTIMORE, Md. - The Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team improved to 8-1 overall and 6-0 in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference with a 112-84 victory over Cecil College on Wednesday night at the BCCC P.E. Center. BCCC has won five consecutive games and scored over 100 points in the last three.
The Panthers made baskets early and often, jumping out to a 24-8 lead after
Will Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./Towson) got a steal and a dunk with 12:08 left in the first half. The Panthers went on a 33-11 run over the next 10 minutes of the half, as they pressured and ran past the Seahawks (7-3, 3-2).
The lead would increase to 38, 57-19, on a
Kendal Williams (Dover, Del./Dover HS) layup with 2:43 left in the opening session. The Panthers defense forced 12 turnovers and held Cecil to 24 percent (6-of-25) shooting in the first 20 minutes of play. BCCC went into the half with a 59-26 lead.
The second half was much of the same as the Panthers imposed their will on the Seahawks. For every run Cecil made, BCCC had an answer for it. Both teams traded baskets throughout the second half, but Cecil was able to cut the lead to 20, 86-66 with 8:03 left in the game as Martel McCain split a pair of free-throws. BCCC ended the game on a 26-18 run to seal the victory.
Cecil had four players in double figures led by Steadman Allen who posted a double-double of 19 points and11 rebounds. John McNair and Donte Adams had 13 points apiece while combining for 10 rebounds and three assists. McCain ended the game with 12 points and two rebounds.
For BCCC all five starters scored double figures. Williams had a game-high of 24 points and added five rebounds, five assists and one steal. Adams came off the bench to finish with 23 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks.
Quentin Judd (Baltimore, Md./Pensacola State College) posted 20 points, five assists, two boards and two steals, while
Sean Farr (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) contributed with 13 points, three boards and three assists.
Mike Wilson (Philadelphia, Pa./Monroe College) had 11 points, three assists and two rebounds and
Justin Kuntz (Baltimore, Md./Glen Burnie HS) had a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds to go along with two assists, two blocks and one steal.
The Panthers will be in playing in the Frederick Community College Roy Rogers Classic Frederick, Md. this weekend. They will take on Harcum Community College at 5 p.m. on Saturday and Monroe College at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
