Farr Leads No. 4 Panthers to 83-71 Win Over No. 12 CCBC-Catonsville

FREDERICK, Md.
Sean Farr (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) scored a game-high-tying 21 points and added six rebounds to lead the No. 4 Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team to a 83-71 win over No. 12 CCBC-Catonsville on Friday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the 2012 Maryland JUCO Tournament.

The Panthers (19-9) will take on top-ranked Hagerstown Community College (24-4) at 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Frederick Community College Cougar Dome. In the only meeting between BCCC and Hagerstown this season, the Hawks won 101-93.

The game was tight in the first half, but Catonsville (9-19) managed to get a five-point lead, 20-15, after a pair of free throws by Lawrence Weldon with 11:54 left in the first half. A layup by Farr at the 6:54 mark tied the game at 25-all. BCCC then went on a 19-10 run to go into halftime with a 44-35 lead.

The Panthers maintained a double-digit lead for most of the second half and easily advanced to Saturday's game.

Willie Kee led Catsonville with 21 points and eight assists. Weldon had 16 points, while Tyrone Smothers and Mikail Hernandez scored 13 and 12 points, respectively.

For BCCC, Theodore West (Philadelphia, Pa./Kensington HS) had 16 points and five rebounds. Karrell Goines (Baltimore, Md./Patterson HS) recorded a double-double of 13 points and 11 assists, while Carlos Smith (Baltimore, Md./Forest Park HS) racked up double digit points (12) and rebounds (13) and added five assists and three blocked shots.

Donte Stuckey (Baltimore, Md./Walbrook HS) added 10 points off the bench.
