Farr Leads No. 2 BCCC to 97-83 Win Over No. 7 Garrett College

HAGERSTOWN, Md.Sean Farr (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) scored a game-high 23 points to lead second-seeded Baltimore City Community College to a 97-83 win over No. 7 Garrett College on Friday night in the 2012 Region XX Tournament. The Panthers advance to Saturday's semifinal game against No. 3 CC of Beaver County at 5 p.m.

BCCC (21-10) and Beaver County (25-5) met once this season with the Panthers winning 88-86 on Dec. 18.

The game was close for most of the first half. The Panthers took their largest lead of the period, 48-34, after a layup by Carlos Smith (Baltimore, Md./Forest Park HS) with 2:42 left before halftime. Garrett (13-15) went on a 6-2 run to bring the score to 50-40 at halftime.

BCCC quickly opened up a 16-point lead after a bucket by Warren Wright (Baltimore, Md./Northwestern HS) at the 17:58 in the second half. But Garrett got within four, 65-61, after Isaac Akwara scored at the 12:41 mark.

The Panthers tightened up on both sides of the ball and easily advanced to the semifinal round.

Din Moore led Garrett with 20 points. Akwara had 17 points, while Armond Perez and Antonio Butler had 16 and 11 points, respectively. Guila Panzo also scored in double figures with 10 points.

For BCCC, Wright finished with 20 points. Theodore West (Philadelphia, Pa./Kensington HS) dropped in 17 points and grabbed five rebounds and Zafir Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Vaux HS) had 16 points and a game-high nine assists. Smith had game-highs of seven boards and two blocks to go with his eight points and five assists.
