DANVILLE, Ill. – Sean Farr (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) scored 15 of his 20 points in the second half and teammate Karrell Goines (Baltimore, Md./Patterson HS) added 10 of his 12 points in the second period as the Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team defeated No.6 Erie Community College in the opening round of the 2012 NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament.
The Panthers (24-10) advance in the winner's bracket to take on CC of Rhode Island (29-4) at 9 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
Erie (24-5) led for much of the first half and took a 47-36 lead into halftime. BCCC rallied late in the second half and held off ECC for the win.
Six players scored for Erie, including all five starters who recorded double figures. Dequan Jones led the way with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Brandon Emmitt had 18 points, Yandell Denis had 17, and Uche Ogbonna and Eymofee Edukugho scored 16 and 10 points, respectively.
Carlos Smith (Baltimore, Md./Forest Park HS) scored a game-high 21 points to lead BCCC. Theodore West (Philadelphia, Pa./Kensington HS) added 15 points and Zafir Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Vaux HS) tallied 14 points and a game-high five assists.
