DANVILLE, Ill. – The Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team used a 16-5 run over the last 6:27 of the game to post a 74-65 win over Johnson County Community College on Thursday afternoon in the third round of the 2012 NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball National Tournament on the campus of Danville Area Community College.
BCCC (25-11) will play the winner of the Louisburg College vs. South Mountain CC game at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday. The winner will earn a 5th-place finish, while the loser will finish in 6th place.
Down four points (58-54) with 6:53 left in the game, Sean Farr (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) scored on back-to-back buckets to tie the game at 60-all. The Panthers then held JCCC scoreless over the next 4:37 to help seal the win. The closest JCCC got the rest of the way was nine, 74-65, after a 3-pointer by Christian Hildebrant with eight seconds left.
JCCC led the entire way and were up by as many as 14, 22-8, in the first half. The Panthers hung in with the Cavaliers, though, and were only down by six, 40-34, at halftime.
The Cavaliers quickly opened up a 12-point lead to start the second half, but BCCC tightened up on both sides of the ball and eventually took over down the stretch.
Hildebrant led JCCC with a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. Justin Leathers added 19 points, 17 rebounds and four assists, while Quasim Jones finished with 10 points.
Farr had his own double-double of 20 points and 13 boards. Carlos Smith (Baltimore, Md./Forest Park HS), Zafir Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Vaux HS) and Donte Stuckey (Baltimore, Md./Walbrook HS) each tallied nine points. Smith grabbed 10 rebounds and Williams had eight assists. Christian Diboko (Kinshasa, Congo) added seven points, five boards, and a game-high two blocks.
