BEL AIR, Md. – Lexie Roberts had a match-high 17 kills and Abby Claborn passed out a match-best 24 assists to lead the Harford Community College women's volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-9, 25-20) win over Baltimore City Community College on Wednesday night at the Susquehanna Center.
In the first set, Harford (6-1) took a commanding 14-6 lead, but after a BCCC timeout, the Lady Panthers (2-10) went on a 6-1 run to bring the score to 15-12. The Fighting Owls ended the set on a 10-1 run to take the first win.
Harford controlled Set 2 from beginning to end, leading by double digits for most of the set.
The Lady Panthers came out focused in the third set and kept things close the entire way. Tied at 14-all, BCCC took the lead after an attack error by Roberts. Harford went up 19-15, but the Lady Panthers would not quit and got within one, 20-19, after an error by Rachel Jirsa. The Fighting Owls limited BCCC to just one more point the rest of the way to win the match.
Kourtney Anderson (Baltimore, Md./City College) led BCCC with seven kills and added six digs.
Rachael Griffith (Baltimore, Md./Western HS) had a team-high 13 assists
Jaizmeine Ramirez (Baltimore, Md./Woodlawn HS) and
Rodchell Thompson (Baltimore, Md./Woodlawn HS) each had six digs.
The Lady Panthers are off until Tuesday when they host CCBC-Essex at 6 p.m.
