Jabbie Leads NOVA to a 96-94 Victory over BCCC

ANNANDALE, Va. – Khalil Jabbie scored game-high 27 points to lead the Northern Virginia Community College men's basketball team to a 96-94 victory over Baltimore City Community College on Wednesday night. Jabbie was 8-of-18 from the field and a perfect 9-of-9 from the free-throw line.

NOVA improves to 10-8 with the win, while BCCC falls to 14-7 after its second consecutive loss.

NOVA led the majority of the first half as the Panthers struggled to get into the flow of the game.  The Panthers led by one on two separate occasions, with the last lead, 36-35, coming at the 5:08 mark after a jump shot by Kendal Williams (Dover, Del./Dover HS). BCCC trailed at the half 46-43.

In the second half the Panthers were plagued by missed free-throws and missed layups which helped NOVA go up by 11 (74-63), after a Samuel Taylor jumper with 9:59 remaining in the game. The Panthers cut the lead to six, 88-82, with 3:54 to play on a Xavier Richards (St. Thomas, U.S.V.I./Gwynn Park HS) layup.

The lead ballooned back to eight, 90-82, with 3:22 left in the game as the Panthers made a 6-0 run that was capped by a jumper by Williams with 2:06 remaining. From that point on NOVA went 6-of-8 from the charity stripe to shut the door on the Panthers late comeback.

NOVA's Simon Kilday scored 26 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Brian McDonald finished with 18 points, seven boards and three blocks and Samuel Taylor ended the game with 10 points, five rebounds, four assists and two blocks.

For BCCC, Quentin Judd (Baltimore, Md./Pensacola State College) had 21 points and three assists and Will Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./Towson) came off the bench to score 18 points, while adding seven boards, three assists and two blocks.

Williams posted his first double-double of the season with 15 points and a season-high 11 assists to go along with four rebounds. Sean Farr (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) and Richards both scored 14 points and had five and eight rebounds, respectively.

The Panthers travel to McHenry Md. on Saturday for a 3 p.m. game at Garrett College.
