BALTIMORE, Md. –
Justin Kuntz (Baltimore, Md./Polk College) posted his fifth double-double of the season with 27 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team to a 113-92 win over Montgomery College Saturday evening at the BCCC P.E Center. Kuntz was 11-of-15 from the field, 5-of-8 from the free-throw line and added three assists, two steals and one block.
The win ended a three-game losing streak for BCCC (15-8, 11-1 MDJUCO).
Montgomery College (13-10) kept things close to start the game and tied things at 17-all after a jumper by Garrett Witts with 12:58 left in the first half. But the Panthers went on a 14-2 run over the next 2:49 to take a 31-19 lead.
The Panthers led by 20 at one point (55-35) due to the 16 first-half turnovers they forced. BCCC took a 55-39 lead into halftime and shot 52 percent from the field (22-of-42), while holding Montgomery College to 44 percent (12-of-27).
The second half was much of the same as the Panther defense made it tough for the Raptors to get in a consistent flow going. The Panthers shot a blistering 68 percent (26-of-38) from the field in the second half. They scored 30 points off turnovers and held the Raptors to 43 percent (28-of-65) from the field for the game.
The Raptors had six players in double figures for the game. Phoenix Butler-Poole led the team with 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Dewitt Wood came off the bench to add 18 points, nine rebounds and three assists.
Tim Christian and Alex Chike both scored 14 points while providing six rebounds and four steals and seven assists, respectively. Trent Walker and Witts both had 13 points and combined for eight rebounds.
For BCCC,
Kendal Williams (Dover, Del./Dover HS) posted his second double-double of the season with 21 points and a career-high 14 assists while adding three steals and two rebounds.
Sean Farr (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) finished with 23 points, six boards, two assists and one block.
Xavier Richards (St. Thomas U.S.V.I./Gwynn Park HS) scored 13 points and added four boards, three assists, two steals and one block, while
Will Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./Towson) came off the bench to contribute 10 points, three rebounds and two assists.
The Panthers host Anne Arundel on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
