Panthers Go 0-2 in Texans Classic

Levelland, Tx. – The Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team dropped both of their games in the Texans Classic at the Texans Dome in Levelland, Tx. The Panthers (3-3) played on Friday and Saturday against 9th ranked South Plains College and New Mexico Military Institute.
 
On Friday night, the men lost by four (68-64), against South Plains College (8-0). The Panthers trailed by 14 at the half, but cut the lead to one (51-50), with 9:48 remaining in the game. South Plains used a quick 7-0 run (58-50), to stretch the lead and keep the Panthers at bay.
 
For South Plains, Roderick Lawrence had a game-high 23 points along with six rebounds and four assists. Ryan Martin finished with 16 points and nine rebounds while Billydee Williams came off the bench with 10 points and eight boards.
 
Xavier Richards (St. Thomas, U.S.V.I./Gwynn Parks HS), had a team-high 19 points and six rebounds.
 
Kavon Pyatt (Baltimore, Md./Edmondson HS) finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists and Brian Kelley (Lanham, Md./Atlantic Shores HS) added 12 points for the game.
 
Terry Harris (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood HS) had a game-high six blocks. 
 
On Saturday, the Panthers lost 66-57 to New Mexico Military Institute as they fell behind early 7-0. Harris ignited the team by scoring the first 11 points for the Panthers, as the team got off to a slow start.
 
BCCC, trailed by 3 (54-51), with 3:11 left in the second half on a lay-up by Pyatt, but a 6-0 by the Broncos put the game out of reach.
 
The Broncos were led in scoring by Will Joyce with 16 points adding eight rebounds. Tariq Carey had 15 points and four rebounds and Marcus Roper ended with 11 and five rebounds.
 
Harris ended the game with 15 points, six boards and four steals and Pyatt had 11 points and eight rebounds.
 
The men will be in action again on Tuesday, when they return home as part of a double-header at 7 p.m. against Cecil College.
 
General admissions will be $5.00, for BCPS $2.00 and free admissions for faculty and students with a valid college I.D.
