BALTIMORE, Md. – The Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team finished 0-2 in the Ben Williams Classic over the weekend at the P.E. Center.
The Panthers lost in a heartbreaking loss to Globe Institute of Technology on Saturday in overtime 101-97 and on Sunday to Westchester Community College 79-74.
Against Globe, BCCC (5-6) lead by as many as 23 points in the game before Sharif Cobb hit a three-pointer as the clock expired to force the game into overtime.
The Knights (7-5) took their first lead of the game in the extra period on a Cobb lay-up with 4:13 to go in the game. The Panthers went up by one (92-91) with 2:07 left to play, but the Knights outscored the Panthers in the last two minutes of the game 9-6 to steal the win.
For the Knights, T.J. Jackson and Jamel Cadell had double-doubles with 31 points and 10 rebounds and 11 points and 11 assists respectively. Cadell also had seven rebounds.
Bolade Akingboye pitched in with 14 points off the bench.
Jaquel Taft and Kevin Gonzalez both had 12 points apiece. Cobb finished with eight points.
For BCCC,
Xavier Richards (St. Thomas, U.S.V.I/Gwynn Park HS) scored 20 points and collected nine boards.
Terry Harris (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood HS) had 17 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals.
Brelin Elliott (Hughesville, Md./Thomas Stone HS) had 15 points and four rebounds off the bench.
Kavon Pyatt (Baltimore, Md./Edmondson HS) had a double-double with 16 boards and 13 points to go along with four steals and three assists.
Brian Kelley (Lanham, Md./Atlantic Shores HS) ended the game with 13 points.
DaJuan Dent (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills HS) finished 11 points and seven boards.
On Sunday against Westchester (10-1), BCCC kept it close after trailing by seven (23-16), halfway through the first half before cutting the deficit to two, as they trailed at the half 36-34.
The Panthers tied the game up at 44 apiece with 16:42 in the game, on a lay-up by Richards. The Vikings outscored the Panthers 35-30 to end the game, giving the Panthers their third loss in a row.
The Vikings had five players in double-figures, Giovanni McLean had 18 points and Joel Angus III had 16 points and nine rebounds.
Rashid Barrow and Damien Daniels both had double-doubles with 11 points and 16 rebounds and 11 points and 15 boards respectively.
Frank Rodriquez finished with 11 points.
For BCCC, Pyatt had 22 points, seven boards and four assists and Richards recorded 14 points and six rebounds.
John Majors (Upper Marlboro, Md./Largo HS) chipped in with 10 points off the bench and Harris contributed with 12 points and four rebounds.
The Panthers will be on the road as they travel to Wye Mills, Md. to take on Chesapeake College on Thursday, December 19
th, for a conference game at 7 p.m.
