BALTIMORE, Md. – Top-ranked Baltimore City Community College cruised past No. 16 Montgomery College 99-70 in the opening round of the 2013 Maryland JUCO Conference Tournament on Tuesday night at the BCCC P.E. Center.
The Panther men (19-8) take on No. 9 CCBC-Catonsville (11-13) at 5 p.m. on Friday. BCCC defeated Catonsville 93-73 on February 2.
The game started out close in the first half. BCCC took a five-point lead, 17-12, after two free throws by
Sean Farr (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) with 13:51 left in the first half. The Panthers opened things up with a 24-8 run that was capped by a dunk by
Will Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./Towson University) at the 5:56 mark.
At halftime, BCCC was up 51-33.
In the second half, the Panthers maintained a double-digit lead the entire way and led by as many as 30 on several occasions. A dunk by
Aaron Parham (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) with 2:08 left in the game put BCCC up 97-63. A 3-pointer by Phoenix Butler-Poole with 31 seconds left ended the scoring for the game.
Butler-Poole racked up a game-high 23 points for Montgomery College. Alex Chike, Garrett Witts and Ronald Ferguson each tallied 11 points.
Mike Wilson (Philadelphia, Pa./Monroe College) led the Panthers with 18 points and added six rebounds, six assists and two steals. Adams finished with 14 points and six boards, while
Akeem Echols (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood HS) tallied a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Kendal Williams (Dover, Del./Dover HS) also had 13 points and
Justin Kuntz (Baltimore, Md./Glen Burnie HS) and
Ronald Epps (Baltimore, Md./Digital Harbor HS) had 11 points apiece.
