BEL AIR, Md. – Quinton Jackson scored a game-high 25 points and teammate Charles Woods had 24 points and 11 rebounds to help No. 9 CCBC-Catonsville to a 91-77 upset of No. 1 Baltimore City Community College in the quarterfinal round of the 2013 Maryland JUCO Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon at the APG Federal Credit Union Arena at Harford Community College.
Catonsville (11-13) will take on. No. 5 Harford CC at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
BCCC (19-9) has the next two weeks off. The Panthers will take part in the 2013 Region XX Tournament that will be held at Hagerstown Community College from February 28 to March 3.
The Panthers got on the board first with a dunk by
Sean Farr (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar HS) 10 seconds into the game and maintained the lead for most of the first half. Catonsville took a one-point lead (19-18), however, after a layup by Kenneth White-Nash at the 8:05 mark.
A layup by
Justin Kuntz (Baltimore, Md./Glen Burnie HS) with 1:05 left in the first half tied things at 34-all, but White-Nash answered on the other end with a layup to take a 36-34 lead into halftime.
The Cardinals distanced themselves from the Panthers early in the second half and led by 13 points (53-40) after one of two free throws by Woods with 14:29 left in the game. They extended the lead to 20, 75-55, after a 3-pointer by Woods at the 7:17 mark. The Panthers did not get closer than 15 points the rest of the way.
Rodney Jones also scored in double figures for Catonsville with 18 points.
Kendal Williams (Dover, Del./Dover HS) led BCCC with 22 points while Farr had 21 points and five rebounds.
Akeem Echols (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood HS) came off the bench to record 17 points and seven boards. Kuntz grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
