Panthers Run Past Harford 85-58 in Region XX Tourney

HAGERSTOWN, Md. – Justin Kuntz (Baltimore, Md./Glen Burnie HS) had team-highs of 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team to an 85-58 win over Harford Community College on the first day of the 2013 NJCAA Region XX Division I Tournament.
 
The Panthers will take on Hagerstown CC for the regional title at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
 
The game was close early in the first half. A free throw by Jeff Joynes with 11:02 left in the first half tied the game at 13-all. But BCCC (21-9) slowly crept away and led by 13 points, 32-19, after a jumper by Akeem Echols (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood HS) at the 3:12 mark. A 3-pointer by Kendal Williams (Dover, Del./Dover HS) with 41 seconds left put the Panthers up 35-22 going into half time.
 
BCCC dominated the second half and outscored Harford 50-36 in the final 20 minutes. Midway through the second half, the Panthers led by 16 (52-36) after a free throw by Xavier Richards (St. Thomas, U.S.V.I./Gwynn Park HS). The lead increased to 22, 64-44, on a Will Adams (Philadelphia, Pa./Towson University) dunk with 5:53 left in the game.
 
The Panthers cruised the rest of the way for the win.
 
Dimitrious Jelen-Joy led Harford with 16 points and added six rebounds. Colby Giacubeno finished with 13 points, while Carlos Brown had 11 points and nine rebounds. George Cook had a game-high 14 rebounds.
 
For BCCC, Williams tallied 14 points, five rebounds and three assists. Adams and Dwayne Brewer (Baltimore, Md./Douglass HS) each recorded 12 points and Mike Wilson (Philadelphia, Pa./Monroe College)  had 11 points and a team-high four assists.
