Panthers Fall to NOVA 88-78

BALTIMORE, MD. – The Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team fell to Northern Virginia Community College 88-78 on Thursday night at the P.E. Center. The Panthers have dropped their last two games which now puts the Panthers overall record at 7-8.
 
Both teams battled back and forth before BCCC started to impose their will late in the first half taking a nine point lead (28-19), at the 4:24 mark.
 
The Panthers took a 38-31 lead going into the half.
 
In the second half NOVA (8-7), put together a 7-0 run cutting the lead to two (40-38), in the opening two minutes. The Panthers push the lead back up to seven (48-41), using an 8-3 run of their own.
 
Once again NOVA got on a hot streak and ran off 13 straight points capped off by a Khalil Jabbie three-pointer. NOVA took a six point lead (54-48) and never looked back.
 
The Panthers got within one on two separate occasions, the last time was 56-55 with 10:38 remaining in the game.
 
For NOVA,  Mortimer Berchie had game-highs of 27 points, nine assists and four steals and added seven rebounds. Chad Canady scored 15 points and had eight rebounds.
 
Joe Cabrera also had 15 points and collected six boards off the bench. Jabbie ended the game with 22 points, six assists and four rebounds.
   
For BCCC, Xavier Richards (St. Thomas, U.S.V.I./Gwynn Parks HS) ended with a team-high 18 points to go alongside nine rebounds. Terry Harris (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood HS) had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Brian Kelley (Lanham, Md./Atlantic Shores HS) and Keon Press (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City HS) both scored 10 points. Kelley also contributed with eight assists and Press added seven boards.
 
John Majors (Upper Marlboro, Md./Largo HS) pitched in scoring 11 points.
 
The men will be in action on Saturday January 11th, as they go on the road to Columbia, Md. where they take on Howard Community College at 3 p.m.
