Panthers Hold off Montgomery for an 81-74 Victory

Baltimore, MD. – The Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team defeated Montgomery College 81-74 on Wednesday night in the P.E. Center. BCCC have now won four straight conference games and four of their last five games.  
 
BCCC finished the game going 9-of-10 from the free-throw line to seal the victory and hold off a late run by Montgomery College.
 
The teams traded baskets early before the Panthers went on to take the lead and did not trail for the remainder of the game. The Panthers led by as many as 16 points in the first half as they took a 47-35 lead into halftime.
 
In the second half, BCCC increased the lead to 18 points (57-39) before Montgomery (12-10) went on an 18-4 run cutting the lead to three (61-58) with 6:46 to go.
 
The Panthers finished the game on a 20-16 run.   
 
The Raptors Andre Gaines posted a double-double with a game-high 22 points and 13 rebounds while Zach Curran had 18 points.
 
Sam Ijeomah finished with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds while adding seven assists and D'Angelo Vaughn recorded 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
 
For BCCC, Brian Kelley (Lanham, Md./Atlantic Shores HS) finished with season-highs of 17 points and six steals to go alongside six steals and five rebounds.
 
Xavier Richards (St. Thomas, U.S.V.I./Gwynn Park HS) had 15 points and nine rebounds and John Majors (Upper Marlboro, Md./Largo HS) ended the game with 11 points and six boards.
 
DaJuan Dent (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills HS) and Keaton Mack (Odenton, Md./Arundel HS) both scored 10 points.
 
The men will be in action against Prince George's Community College on Friday, January 31st for a 7 p.m. game.
