Annandale, VA. – The Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team held on Wednesday night to defeat Northern Virginia Community College 78-70.
 
The game started off with both teams fighting to gain momentum and control of the game and NOVA struck first. BCCC trailed by 9 with just under 6:00 left in the first half before mounting a 14-3 run to take a 30-28 lead just before a lay-up by Mo Berchie with :07 left in the half.
 
The Panthers trailed by just two points at the break, 32-30.
 
In the second half, NOVA kept it going and led for the majority of the final 20:00 of play. That changed with a big three-pointer by Wilmer Johnson (New Castle, Del./William Penn HS) with 5:50 left to play and the Panthers would not lose the lead for the remainder of the game.
 
For NOVA, Berchie had a game-high 24 points and backcourt mate Korey Williams had 18 points and six assists. Doyle Boyd scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds.
 
Marqueice Johnson pulled in 14 rebounds and Chris Archie had nine boards in the game.
 
For the Panthers, Tre' Thomas (Bowie, Md./Riverdale Baptist HS)  finished the game with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
 
John Majors (Upper Marlboro, Md./Largo HS) scored 16 and hauled in eight rebounds.
 
Reserve Keon Press (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City HS), ended the game with 14 points and six rebounds while Chas Brown (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore Polytechnic HS) filled the stat sheet with 10 points five boards, four assists and three blocks.
 
Johnson had 15 points and a career-high nine assists.
 
The Panthers will play Hagerstown Community College on Saturday, January 24^th at 3 p.m. in the P.E. Center.
 
General admissions for the game will be $5.00, for BCPS $2.00 and free admissions for faculty and students with a valid college I.D.
