BCCC Hands Hagerstown Community College a 75-59 Loss

BALTIMORE, MD. – Sophomore Brian Kelley (Lanham, Md./Atlantic Shores) of the Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team recorded his first career triple-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists to help propel his team to a 75-59 victory over Hagerstown Community College on Saturday in the P.E. Center.
 
The Panthers were locked into a dog fight with the Hawks (8-12, 5-5) early on holding a brief 12-9 lead before falling behind 29-14.
 
The Panthers cut the deficit to 10 going into the break 37-27 by using a 13-8 run.
 
In the second half, the Panthers (11-10, 7-4) looked to be hitting on all cylinders outscoring the Hawks 48-22.
 
BCCC made a 14-4 run to tie the game at 41 apiece with pressure defense and forcing a litany of turnovers. BCCC took a 43-41 lead on a jumper by reserve DaJuan Dent (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills HS) and would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game.
 
The Panthers bench outscored the Hawks bench 28-10, points in the paint 42-22 and the Panthers defense was able to force 22 turnovers and score 21 points off of those mistakes.
 
The suffocating defense held Hagerstown to 7-of-25 (28%), shooting from the field and 16-of-53 (30.2%), for the game.
 
Devin Smith finished the game with team-high 16 points. Brandon Better and Victor Blakey both had 11 points and Devin Moore ended the game with 10 points.


John Majors (Upper Marlboro, Md./Largo HS) scored a game-high 16 points for the game and also hauled in seven rebounds. Dent contributed with 13 points.
 
The Panthers will travel to Takoma Park, Md. on Wednesday, January 28th to face Montgomery College at 5:30 p.m.
