Panthers Finish 1-1 in Frederick Tourney over the Weekend

FREDERICK, MD. – The Baltimore City Community College men's basketball team participated in Frederick Community College Tip-Off Mixer on Friday and Saturday where they finished 1-1.

BCCC suffered their first loss against #4 Monroe Community College on Friday at 6 p.m. 69-65. BCCC lead at the half by six, 38-32.
In the second half the Panthers extended their lead to eight, 45-37 with 16:48 to play in the game. Over the next 4:41, the game was tied at 51-51 as the Tribunes went on a

14-6 run capped off by a three-pointer by Izaha Jackson.

The Panthers used a 6-0 run of their own to take the game back into their control with just under 9:00 minutes to go. The game was tied for the last time at 59 apiece with 6:38 remaining in the second half and the Panthers were outscored 10-6 for the remainder of the game.

The Tribunes had four players in double figures: Darwin Trotman lead all scorers with 20 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Trotman shot 6-of-8 from the field and was 7-of-9 from the free-throw line.

Romaine Thomas had 12 points and nine rebounds and two blocks, and Damon Miraud posted a double-double of his own with 13 rebounds and 10 points. Jackson ended the game with 10 points in the game.

For the Panthers, freshman guard Haneef Vaughn-Wilson (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution HS) lead the team with 13 points off the bench with four assists and four rebounds and  Fredrell Jenkins (New Orleans, La/JS Clark HS) also off the bench chipped in with 11 points.

Tre' Thomas (Bowie, Md./Riverdale Baptist HS) had 11 points and five boards. Kelvin Howard (Temple Hills, Md./Dematha HS) finished with nine points shooting a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc.  

Mekhi Bryant (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury HS) ended the game with nine points and four assists.

On Saturday, the Panthers returned to top form against Delaware Tech Community College as they won 91-75.

BCCC came out firing on all cylinders jumping out to a 17-5 lead to start the game.

The Panthers hit five of their first six three-pointers and finished the first half shooting a blistering 62 percent (8-of-13) from three-point range.

Thomas gave BCCC a four point lead (41-37) going into the half as he drained a jumper as time expired in the first half. 
In the second half the Panthers kept the hot shooting going in the second half along with their swarming defense.

The Panthers outrebounded the Spirit 51-37.

Eric Pittman of Delaware Tech had a game-high 22 points. Shawn Flanagan finished with 14 points and six assists, Robert Davis had 12 points and Xavier Purnell ended with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Thomas led the Panthers with 21 points to go with six rebounds. Howard had 15 points shooting 4-of-5 from downtown and five rebounds.

Chad Andrews-Fulton (Philadelphia, Pa./Constitution HS) posted his second double-double of the year with 12 points and 12 boards and Leonardo Ward (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams HS) had 10 points and four rebounds.  

Bryant finished the game with 10 points and nine assists.

The Panthers will return home to the P.E. Center as they will host their first tournament of the year which is the Baltimore City Legends Classic. The Panthers will face Harcum College on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.

The tournament will take place from Thursday November, 12th-Sunday November 15th. The Participating teams will be ASA College, CCBC-Catonsville, Hagerstown Community College, Harcum College, Miami-Dade College and Northern Virginia Community College.
